Left turn!
Mick Jagger sang “You can’t always get what you want”… which sort of defined today. I was going to get up early, work on some video stuff, head out to the renaissance festival… frigging kill a bear. bzzzz…. Yes, the cats got me up for breakfast, but then little ash parked on my chest… suddenly, it was noon! I went racing out with Jan to the festival, and they were full… parking wasn’t available. Rats!
Jan had a good idea, so we went up to Biltmore and went through the Chihuly exhibit. This time starting at the estate, instead of at the arboretum. We missed a bunch last trip. I’ve added a new ‘Chihuly at Biltmore’ album. It starts with pictures from this trip. In the next day or two, I’ll dig up the pictures from the prior trip and add them, to round out the imagery.
For something like this, with mid-day sun softened a bit by clouds, I stuck with my 18-135 f/3.5-5.6 kit zoom. It’s a great lens when you’re not hurting for light, and are not chasing bokeh. ISO 200, aperture priority, and mostly around f/13-f18. I did bring my Joby mini-tripod to get some steady shots.
The 20+ pictures here are from an initial wave of 170 pictures, picked out for visual interest, and cleaned up in lightroom. I hope you enjoy them!
